Brazilian Butt Lift Q & A

What is a Brazilian butt lift?

A Brazilian butt lift augments the size and shape of your buttocks using fat from your body rather than implants. This is a great procedure if you have problem areas you want to slim down because that fat is removed and then artistically injected into your buttocks.

How is a Brazilian butt lift performed?

The first step is to talk with Dr. Obianwu about the shape you want to achieve. It’s important to be specific about details like the overall size and contour you envision, as well as your preferred hip width.

When it’s time for your procedure, Dr. Obianwu performs liposuction to extract unwanted fat from areas like your tummy, waist, thighs, hips, and upper back. Then he puts the fat through a purification process that separates healthy fat cells from other tissues.

Dr. Obianwu uses a specialized tube to inject the fat into your buttocks, carefully placing each injection to create the size and shape you desire. After the fat is injected, it gradually establishes a blood supply and becomes a natural part of the buttocks tissues.

A small amount of the injected fat is absorbed back into your body. The fat that remains is permanent, so you can count on retaining your new contour.

What happens after a Brazilian butt lift?

You’ll need to plan for downtime following your Brazilian butt lift. The newly transplanted fat is fragile, so you won’t be able to sit or lie directly on your butt for about two weeks, except for using the toilet. After two weeks, Dr. Obianwu lets you know when it’s safe for you to sit using a Boppy® pillow or donut pillow. You’ll need to diligently use the pillow for about eight weeks.

Am I a good candidate for a Brazilian butt lift?

Certain qualities affect how well you heal and your overall satisfaction with your Brazilian butt lift. A good candidate should meet these guidelines:

  • Physically healthy
  • Nonsmoker
  • Realistic expectations
  • Good buttocks skin tone
  • Close to your ideal weight
  • Have enough excess fat to transfer

You should also give some serious thought to what it will mean to avoid sitting in the weeks after your Brazilian butt lift. This step is critical to prevent the newly transferred fat from being pushed out of shape or dying.
